The forest breathed a heavy sigh as if trying to rouse itself from its slumber. Each nascent leaf trembled with in its uncertain search for light. Slowly, she wandered almost aimlessly forward, each step carefully placed but leading deeper into the fog. Everything felt alive; the ground seemed to pulse with the trees. And each finger of light twisted through like smoke, their ghostly dance shifting in and out of sight.
She pressed on, her steps dragging until she could go no further. Giving in, she slumped against an old tree, its bark had melted away.
Sleep claimed her.
She awoke—or so she thought.
The woods around her seemed brighter. The light filtering through the trees was playful, until she looked away. Yet it illuminated paths that vanished as soon as she followed them. The haze lingered as much in the air as in her mind.
She tried to shake the lingering unease, telling herself it was just a dream. The forest still danced, its movement almost taunting now. Was this truly waking life, or just a twist of her imagination? The line between dream and reality blurred further with each step she took.
And as she wandered, trapped in the endless maze of light, a single phrase echoed through her mind: Wake up.
But could she, if she wasn’t even sure whether she had ever truly fallen asleep?
